Surrogate mother + Egg donor

Donation and surrogate motherhood: in which cases donor’s biomaterial is needed

The continuation of the family, the upbringing of one’s own child, who will inherit the best that
is in the parents, is the happiness and meaning of human life. But nature does not favour to
everyone: at the moment about 3.5 million Ukrainian families can not have a child.

Often the problem can be solved by extracorporeal fertilization of the wife. When there are
obstacles to this, a surrogate mother can render a service for bearing a baby. The egg of the
genetic mother and the sperm of the biological father interact with the IVF method. The embryo
that was born in the test tube is moved into the womb of a surrogate mother. The baby who was
born, will be native child of both spouses.

However, there are especially difficult situations, when only surrogate motherhood and donation
of biological material involved can help. Example: one or both partners lack or are not viable
cells needed for reproduction.

Proceeding from this, within the framework of the surrogate motherhood program, IVF is carried
out using of:

– donor eggs;
– donor sperm;
– donor embryos.

Surrogate motherhood with a donor egg is applied if:

-there are no oocytes due to menopause, weakened ovarian function, as a result of radiation or
chemotherapy, anomalies of congenital development;

-previously there were unsuccessful attempts of IVF as a result of poor egg quality;

-there are contraindications to hormonal stimulation of the ovaries or a weak reaction to it;

-there is a danger of transferring the hereditary diseases to the child.

In the presence of one or more reasons the baby is born by a surrogate mother. Donor egg is
fertilized with biomaterial of genetic dad, after which the embryo is introduced into the uterus of
the surrogate mother.

More accurate technology, including using donor material, in which the probability of obtaining
viable embryos increases, a combination of in vitro fertilization and ICSI is recognized. The
essence of it is that the process of fertilization in vitro is not given to the case, but the most
powerful sperm is chosen by laboratory methods. Then it is artificially combined with the egg.
The further procedure is the same as with traditional IVF.
